Hi. Welcome to Groove ‘n Gravel. We are David and Kelly two people who met later in life and bonded over shared interests, and believe its never too late to start over and change direction.
It started with drinks and a dream
When we met, David was a divorced dad a few years into building a new life in a new city, and I was doing what I’d always done – working, traveling and spending time with friends and family. On our first date we bonded over a love of the outdoors, music and a shared dream of long term travel. Slow travel. Immersive travel. The kind of travel that lets you truly explore a place and soak up its spirit. After decades of doing what we were “supposed to do” we craved a change.
We ended the evening with a promise: that if that date turned into something more, we would make our dreams happen together.
Why Share our Journey?
We want to capture our memories and tell our stories, of course, but we also hope to inspire people who look more like us. We’ve been on the road for a while now, and most full‑time travelers we meet are retirees, while the online blogger/vlogger scene is dominated by 20 and 30 somethings. There aren’t many “in‑betweeners” like us. We want to be a voice for our generation and share our experiences and perspectives as an older couple who decided to take a chance and leave our safe and comfortable life behind.
We want to prove that it’s never too late to make a change. You just need to believe that you can.
The Groove
Our story began with a love of music. David is a lifelong musician, playing in bands since his teens while I’ve always been an avid music fan. Music isn’t just background noise for us, its life’s rhythm and flow.
Now as full-time travelers we’re finding that rhythm on the road. Always on the lookout for unique events, and offbeat venues. The Groove is our little corner of the internet to share our love of music, spoken word and any other unicorn.
The Gravel
Our story began with a love of biking. David was a roadie, riding with a team and I loved exploring greenways, rail trails and gravel roads. I was looking for a partner to ride The GAP and C&O from Pittsburgh to DC. Our first trip together was that epic 300 mile journey and as they say, the rest is history.
We love being outside hiking, biking and exploring. The Gravel where we share our passion for adventure and the natural world.
